What to expect at a Sunday Service
Stepping inside a church to attend a worship service for the first time can be an intimidating experience.
How will I be welcomed?
What will the service be like – and how long will it last?
Will people be dressed casually or formally?
And can anyone attend a service at St Anne’s?
These are all things people have asked us, and we thought it would be helpful to have a section on our website dedicated to what people can expect when they attend a service at St Anne’s.
All are welcome
Some may find it surprising to learn that all are welcome in our church, regardless of whether they are full of faith, have none at all or who are just curious to learn about what it is to be a christian. You may be surprised to learn that questions and doubt are an integral part of a faith journey.
We believe that God created a diverse world and delights in it. We, at St Anne’s, are an inclusive church community and welcome all regardless of age, race, gender, economic background, disability or sexual orientation.

Our Sunday service begins at 10:30am and lasts for about an hour,
followed by refreshments and chat.
You can wear whatever you find comfortable for you:
there is no dress code!
Children are welcome at every service and there is a play area at the back of church for those too young to take part in the service.
Our worship style is relaxed but liturgical which means that there are words and prayers which we say together and which have been used (albeit modernised) for centuries. We sing hymns together.
Tradition is an important part of our church worship but we are happy to adapt parts of our services too when the need arises.
There will be bible readings and a sermon, usually based upon the readings. We celebrate the church seasons with particular emphasis on Advent (leading up to Christmas) and Easter.
We celebrate holy communion each Sunday. If you are not used to receiving communion you would be welcome to come up to the altar for a blessing and instructions on how to do this would be given by the rector.
Above all we are here to welcome you to St Anne’s.
Come and try us out and have a cup of tea or coffee with us after the service.

We look forward to welcoming you!
