AIMS OF THE GROUP

To gain a broader understanding of the traditions and structures of different churches.

This is done by sharing church news including topical issues affecting churches. Controversial issues may be discussed and opinions aired but no participant passes judgment on the views of any other.

To support each other as followers of  Jesus Christ and learners about His way.

This aim is worked towards by discussing a Bible passage. Also by (those participants who wish to ) exchanging personal news of self and family and recent spiritual experience and in reporting any practical action anyone may have taken since the last meeting in an effort to promote God’s kingdom in Dunbar (see below).

To heighten awareness of the need for each individual follower of Jesus to search for a distinct attitude towards moral and spiritual issues thrown up by the news.

The group shies away from labeling any one attitude towards a particular moral or spiritual issue as “ the only Christian attitude” in this case. (Adventurous thought is encouraged!). This is done by listening to each other as topical issues are discussed – some newspaper cuttings being “ Good news” and some “Bad news”.

To promote God’s kingdom in Dunbar and district.

Prayer together helps this as do  small practical actions undertaken by participants ( without  pressure from the group either to take part or report back) to spread a sense of well-being and community in the area.
